My Projects

My small gardens are both beautiful and have purpose. Most importantly, they are designed to be very natural and relaxed. Not overly manicured and "produced." They can be wonderful to look at but also are built to be low-maintenance and to quickly become a home for insects and animals that need a place to live. They can also be structured to provide food. Great looking and tasty!

Raised Desert Garden

Created large, raised garden to level yard slope. Planted to mimic a lowland Southwestern Desert landscape with a diverse mix of native and exotic low-water plants.

Limestone Rock Scape

Rockery created in difficult corner of yard where nothing could grow. Utilized available scrap limestone and created a magical small rock garden.

Rock Outcrop Planting

Planted a wide range of succulents to create a "mega" arrangement on existing large native karst rock outcrop on a residential hill.

Border Rockery

Created a rock garden at the edge the lot to obscure a poorly placed utility access. The rocks and creeping succulents did their job.

Rock River

Designed to mimic a creek, limestone rocks were placed in a bed of basalt and planted with a range of flowing desert plants. Was placed along front walkway in a location where little was able to grow.

Garden of Rocks

Rock garden integrated into a more traditional garden. Placed in the suniest location where more typical perenials struggled. Various sun loving edible plants were also integrated.

Colton House Hotel Planting

Steel planter installatoins in front of Colton House Hotel in Austin, TX. One of numerous plant installations at the hotel including lobby plantings and pool deck plantings.

Colton House Hotel Xeriscape

Installed mixed desert and native garden in unused space adjacent to pool deck, adding immediate color, interest and habitat for wildlife.

Colton House Miniatures

Created several miniature succulent plantings that are on display in the various lobbies of the Colton House Hotel.

One for Me

My first miniature planting, begun in autumn 2018. I kept this one for myself and continue to add, subtract, and enjoy.

The Miniature that Broke the Mold

Planting in an old plaster mold that I painted, this miniature succulent planting is an excellent example of how cool reycled and repurposed containers can look (and work).

Succulent Forest

I tend to plant my miniatures more densely than most. This one is a great example of the variety and lushness that can be achieved. I was inspired by the planting style of the Huntington Gardens and wanted to create a portable version.
